Bob Chapman, CMP
VARIETY IN FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Bob graduated from the University of Toronto with majors in Commerce and Economics in 1982 and from there went to work for the Scarborough Board of Education, followed by the Metro Toronto School Board, the Scarborough Library Board and the City of North York which amalgamated into the City of Toronto.

Bob Chapman,
CMP
In his position as Supervisor of Finance for one of the large City Divisions, he says the best part of his job is the variety. He is involved in budgeting, financial accounting and reporting, implementing new computer systems, reviewing and implementing a wide variety of administrative policies and procedures.

The City of Toronto is the largest city in Canada and the fifth largest government in Canada, offering a wide range of services to residents. The City is an excellent employer providing professional development opportunities and all employees are encouraged to participate in the wide variety of courses or take outside courses. Courses in Project Management, Presentation Skills and numerous IT courses help when new systems are implemented or upgraded. Bob was one of the first participants to take IPM’s Professional Manager program back in 1997/98 and has been a member of the Canadian Professional Managers Association for years. The City of Toronto is constantly refining its organizational structure so there are always lots of new challenges on the horizon. When new committees and teams are put together, Bob enjoys meeting people with whom he has worked in the past as well as new faces joining the team.

In his leisure time, Bob enjoys playing basketball and driving his kids to activities. Bob says he has lots of things on his “to do list” including getting involved in politics, buying a sports car, and travelling.

Michelle Dulmadge, RPR
A JOURNEY OF GROWTH THAT STARTED AS A SHORT ASSIGNMENT

Michelle Dulmadge is the Manager, Corporate Administration for AltaGas Ltd. in Calgary.
Prior to AltaGas, Michelle was a recruiter at an employment agency and worked for a number of years as a Court Clerk and Legal Assistant at the Court of Queen’s Bench. She obtained her Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR) designation through IPM in 1998.

Michelle
Dulmadge, RPR
AltaGas is an energy infrastructure-based trust. The Trust develops its asset base by seeking opportunities for expansion and acquisition in the natural gas, natural gas liquids and power businesses in Canada and northern US. AltaGas moves, processes and uses energy to create value.

Michelle began her career at AltaGas in 1999 and quickly assumed more challenging roles within the organization. She is responsible for coordinating all administrative service activities to support the operating functions of the company and maintain a well managed and efficient office environment. Michelle coordinates the physical workplace, systems, equipment, furniture, safety and security for the office. She also became involved with the strategy and implementation of business continuity within AltaGas.

Michelle wanted to take a break from her career prior to getting married. However, what began as a temporary two-week assignment as Receptionist while AltaGas prepared to relocate offices has turned into a challenging and evolving role for over five years. She has a number of Office Services employees under her supervision and is responsible for all corporate real estate in addition to managing her department’s multimillion-dollar budget.

AltaGas has been an incredible journey of growth for both Michelle and for the company. When she started with the firm, there were 77 employees in the Calgary office. In only five years, there are now over 200 employees and contract workers. Michelle finds that the challenges of her position continue to provide new opportunities for growth and learning every day.

In her leisure time, Michelle keeps busy chasing her daughter Danielle and spending time with her husband. She also enjoys her involvement in community theatre, having performed in several productions.

Shannon Feeney, CMP
EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO CLIENTS THE SECRET TO SUCCESS

Shannon started her career in human resources in 1990 as the Secretary, Human Resources and Marketing with Terasen Gas (formerly Centra Gas). During the next four years she progressed through positions of increasing responsibility, becoming the Executive Secretary to the Vice President, Human Resources, Coordinator, Corporate Services, and then Supervisor, Employee & Labour Relations.

Shannon Feeney,
CMP
Shannon led the Employee and Labour Relations department at Terasen Gas (Vancouver Island) providing in-house HR consulting services to executive, management and staff in a unionized environment with approximately 300 employees and 3 collective agreements. Her labour relations philosophy of mutual gains, continuous communication and relationship building contributed to six grievance-free years and exceptional union/management relations. Shannon was an integral part of the management team responsible for termination and outplacement processes for Terasen Gas, all of which contributed to the success of a major company downsizing and merger.

After declining a transfer to the lower mainland in 2004, Shannon decided to start her own Human Resources Consulting business. She is Principal of Feeney & Associates, a Victoria-based HR management consulting firm specializing in recruitment, policy and program development and employee and labour relations. She provides strategic and specialized support to large corporate employers or works as a contracted human resources department for small and medium sized businesses.

One of her major contracts involved recruiting employees for a pulp mill in Port Alice, BC. In addition to managing her own clients, Shannon has recently been sub-contracted to Red Seal Recruiting Solutions, recruiting tradespeople for companies in BC and Alberta. In partnership with the Executive Network Inc., Shannon also works as a Career Transition Counsellor for Career Transition Solutions, a Victoria based company that provides a full range of outplacement services.

Shannon holds a Certificate in Industrial Relations from Queen’s University and is certified as a Canadian Management Professional through the Institute of Professional Management. She is a member of the BC Human Resources Management Association and is a member of the Executive and Board of Volunteer Victoria serving as the Chair of Human Resources.

Shannon plans to continue to build her growing consulting business, helping both individual and corporate clients find the right solution to their human resource issues and concerns. She believes that establishing a good reputation through the provision of exemplary service to her clients is essential to achieving her plans.

In her spare time, Shannon enjoys photography, music, traveling and socializing with family and friends. She also keeps busy with her son’s baseball, watching games, fundraising and traveling with the team.
